Dear Colleagues,

First of all, on behalf of the Bangladesh Rheumatology Society, let me congratulate APLAR members in Japan for being selected for organizing the APLAR 2008 Congress. Japan has a rich technological, moral and cultural heritage. With this background, this will be an endeavor of rolling over the newly acquired knowledge from bench to bedside and spilling it to the World community. Over a span of half week, this gala of sharing our knowledge in such a serene environment should reinvigorate our minds to prepare us even better to tackle such common but critical health problems that touch and cripple our community in everyday life.

I wish the Congress an all round success.

On behalf of Chinese Rheumatology Association, I wish you a successful convening of 13th APLAR Congress in Yokohama and thank you for your effective organizing work. In recent years, advances in rheumatology worldwide has grown very rapidly, and APLAR, as an important member of the international society of rheumatology, comprises the largest population. With great progress achieved in economics of most of its member countries, investment in Life and Medical Science has been accruing, warranting rapid development of rheumatology in the Asian-pacific region. Academic intercommunication among member countries will facilitate the development of rheumatology in this region. I believe the 13th APLAR Congress will provide an important platform for mutual communication and collaboration, and will surely actively promote the advancement of rheumatology in the Asian-pacific region.

Wishing you a successful Congress!

Best regards,

Fengchun Zhang M.D.
President of Chinese Rheumatology Association

It is with great pleasure that we send this message of support to you for holding the APLAR 2008 Congress in Yokohama, Japan. The Asia-Pacific region is home to more than half the world's population but our contribution to the scientific advances in general has been disproportionately low. Rheumatology has progressed rapidly in the last decade. As the mechanisms underlying the Rheumatic diseases are understood, therapies supported by evidence based medicines are now available and have changed the course of many Rheumatic diseases. Unfortunately, the developing countries with their limited resources are still struggling to provide standard care to patients with Rheumatic diseases. The road to social and economic advancement is undoubtedly linked to scientific progress in today's world. Holding of high quality scientific meetings such as the APLAR Congress is a big step in encouraging the kind of scientific activity that is needed for all of us. It is a Herculian task indeed and can be rightly regarded as a crowning achievement of any one who leads the team to accomplish this mission.

The Pakistan Society for Rheumatology is as yet a small organization but fully committed towards the advancement of Rheumatology in Pakistan as well as in the whole of APLAR region. PSR (founded in 1995), is the only organization in Pakistan promoting awareness for rheumatic illnesses, their early diagnosis and early intervention to primary care Physicians and the general public. We will continue to work with APLAR to promote the cause of Rheumatology, which would ultimately benefit the patients with Rheumatic diseases. Despite our limited resources, our members are very enthusiastic in helping with scientific activities whenever possible. We are deeply appreciative of your efforts in holding this very important scientific meeting and offer you our complete support in your endeavour. Whosoever from amongst us can, will attend the Congress. It will be a pleasure to meet you and your team at that occasion.

Let us take this opportunity to share our strengths, discoveries, and even difficulties so that the field of Rheumatology will prosper and more rheumatic patients can be served and saved.
